Founding of “Organization of Football Prognostics” (OPAP)

1959

Introduction of PRO-PO

First agencies are founded in Patra, Aigio and Drama

OPAP begins to finance Infrastructure Projects

1964

Introduction of PRO-PO group systems following the worldwide trend

1969

Expansion of PRO-PO to Cyprus

New systems are implemented in the selection of the coupons, which announce wider technological changes

1974-1979

Greek Football started growing rapidly and the private initiative begins to play a major role. The football teams become football limited companies, while the football players are paid on the basis of fixed terms contracts. This period has been of the most productive ones in terms of advancing the sport infrastructure projects sponsored by OPAP, which was the financial supporter of the effort made by the government.

OPAP continues to finance projects regarding the development of sports infrastructure in the country. An important change of this period was the successful disconnection of OPAP from its unique relation to sports and the beginning of servicing the cultural development of the country. The well-known moto since 1959 “OPAP: At the service of sports” is replaced by “OPAP: At the service of sports and culture”.

1989

The number of OPAP’s agencies continues to increase reaching approximately 4.000.

OPAP becomes an associate member of the Association Europeenne des Lotteries et Lottos d' Etat (AELLE).

Inauguration of the new computer center, thanks to which the company can organize and operate more games apart from PRO-PO

Extension of the exclusive right to organize, operate and manage its games until 2030

Emma Delta Hellenic Holding Ltd acquires 33% of OPAP and becomes strategic shareholder

Hellenic Lotteries acquired a 12-year license for instant ticket and passive lotteries.

2014

Introduction of instant win lottery (Scratch)

2015

Horse Races S.A.: exclusive right to organize and conduct mutual horse betting in Greece

2016

We move to owned new premises in Athens.

Kick-off of the VLTs investment

WLA 4th Level Certification in Responsible Gaming

36.75% investment in Stoiximan

Investment in Kaizen Gaming is completed, reaching 84.5% stake in Stoiximan Group’s Greek & Cypriot business

Introduction of EUROJACKPOT, one of the most popular multi-country lottery games in Europe

OPAP acquires the remaining 15.51% stake in Stoiximan increasing its ownership in the Company to 100%
